Buterin Warns AI Could Weaken Cryptography, Urges Calm
Vitalik Buterin warns that AI-driven mathematical advances could weaken cryptography, but says rushed wallet migrations can create risks of their own.
A public key is a cryptographic code used in blockchain and cryptocurrency systems to receive funds and verify digital signatures. It is paired with a private key, which must remain secret to authorize transactions. Public keys can be safely shared with others, as they allow anyone to send cryptocurrency to the associated address without compromising security. They are generated using cryptographic algorithms and form the foundation of asymmetric encryption.
