Key Notes

  • Ripple executives say industry-friendly candidates won across both political parties.
  • Stuart Alderoty defended Fairshake and pledged continued political engagement.
  • Democratic control of Congress still leaves the legislative agenda uncertain.

Ripple’s top executives are pushing back against the view that the US midterm elections amounted to a defeat for cryptocurrency, arguing that victories by industry-friendly candidates in both parties leave a foundation for pursuing federal rules.

Chief executive Brad Garlinghouse wrote in a Wednesday post: “Pro-crypto members won on both sides of the aisle.” He said Ripple’s mission remained securing clear rules and keeping crypto development in the United States.

Ripple Defends a Long-Term Political Strategy

Chief legal officer Stuart Alderoty said separately that Fairshake, the industry-backed political action committee, had achieved meaningful wins in both primary contests and the general election. He challenged a blanket reading of the results as a crypto setback.

Alderoty cited early Stand With Crypto data showing a substantial number of industry-friendly lawmakers elected across party lines. Neither executive supplied a final race-by-race tally in the posts, and an advocacy group’s assessment of candidates is distinct from their eventual votes on legislation.

He also committed Ripple to continued engagement through super PACs, other political advocacy organizations and crypto education through nonprofits such as the National Cryptocurrency Association. His argument was that establishing regulation requires sustained work across election cycles.

Fairshake’s Wins Came Alongside Major Losses

Fairshake describes itself on its official website as a federally registered independent expenditure-only committee. It says its goal is a clearer legal framework for blockchain businesses and that it supports candidates through independent activities.

Before the election, its House campaign backed 32 incumbents, including 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats. That bipartisan slate explains why a change in congressional control does not by itself mean every industry-supported candidate lost.

There were nevertheless significant setbacks. CoinDesk’s analysis reported that Democrat Sherrod Brown won in Ohio despite Fairshake’s campaign against him, while Republican crypto advocates Bryan Steil and Bill Huizenga lost their House seats.

Garlinghouse and Alderoty emphasized the lawmakers who will remain potential partners. That leaves a separate question: whether those allies can secure agreement with the committees and party leaders controlling the legislative agenda.

The Next Test Is the Policy Agenda

Democrats won control of both chambers, with the new Congress due to take office in January. CoinScreamer’s policy outlook examined how that could complicate market-structure legislation and increase oversight of the industry and President Donald Trump’s crypto interests.

House Democrats are already discussing a new crypto bill that could give the SEC a larger role and add ethics restrictions, according to journalist Eleanor Terrett’s reporting. Those discussions have not produced an introduced bill or an agreed text.

Ripple’s statements signal that it intends to keep negotiating in that environment. They do not announce a legislative compromise, a guaranteed timetable or a change to existing rules.
