Key Notes

  • Schroders is working with Centrifuge on its first fund offering on Solana.
  • Investors will hold tokenized feeder-fund shares linked to an emerging-market bond portfolio.
  • The underlying Schroders fund stays in its existing structure and detailed investor terms remain undisclosed.

Schroders is working with Centrifuge to bring tokenized access to an emerging-market bond strategy to Solana, extending the network’s investment offerings beyond cash-management products.

Solana’s announcement described it as Schroders’s first fund offering on the blockchain. The asset manager oversees approximately $1.1 trillion across its business. The size of the tokenized feeder was not disclosed.

A Feeder Fund Connects Investors to the Bond Portfolio

The structure uses tokenized shares in a feeder fund that invests in the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond, according to CoinDesk’s report. Their value follows net asset value, linking the blockchain-based shares to the investment portfolio underneath. NAV measures a fund’s assets after liabilities, expressed per share. As its holdings change in value, the value per share can change too.

The underlying bond fund stays in its existing structure. Investors gain exposure through the feeder, rather than owning individual government or corporate bonds directly in a Solana wallet.

Centrifuge’s chief strategy and growth officer, Anil Sood, said in the report that emerging-market debt introduces a different source of risk and return into an onchain fixed-income market built largely around money-market instruments and short-term government debt.

An Actively Managed Emerging-Market Strategy

Schroders’s fund factsheet describes an actively managed portfolio investing in bonds issued by governments, government agencies, supranational institutions and companies in emerging markets. Its objective combines income and capital growth, with a target of outperforming its benchmark after fees over three to five years.

That makes the economic exposure different from a token representing a short-dated Treasury strategy. Investors are exposed to the performance of emerging-market borrowers and bond prices, while exchange-rate movements can also affect returns. Tokenizing access changes how the investment is distributed; it does not turn the portfolio into cash or fix its value.

The factsheet lists the underlying fund as Luxembourg-domiciled, with a US dollar base currency and daily dealing. Those existing fund characteristics should be distinguished from the tokenized feeder’s own subscription, redemption and transfer terms.

Centrifuge Extends Its Fund-Distribution Business

The partnership builds on Centrifuge’s work separating investment management from blockchain access. In an October architecture overview, the company described central accounting, pricing and permissions coordinated with fund-share activity across connected networks. The company describes this general architecture as a way to maintain one set of fund records while serving investors across multiple chains.

Centrifuge has also worked with Janus Henderson on JQQQ, a tokenized Nasdaq-100 fund launched on Stellar. CoinScreamer’s JQQQ coverage examined that separate product’s investment structure and eligibility restrictions. The Schroders feeder will have its own offering terms governing investor access and trading.

An investor launch date, minimum subscription and detailed eligibility requirements for the Schroders offering were not specified in the initial report.
