MetaMask Agent Wallet with $10K Loss Protection for AI Autonomous Trading Goes Live

Non-custodial Web3 wallet provider MetaMask has launched Agent Wallet, a specialized infrastructure enabling AI agents to autonomously manage on-chain transactions within strict user-defined security guardrails and spending limits.

MetaMask has officially launched Agent Wallet following an initial rollout to roughly 200 early-access users in June. The self-custodial product allows artificial intelligence models to execute on-chain operations autonomously while operating strictly within predefined constraints established by human account owners. Designed specifically for crypto traders and software developers, the system supports autonomous market monitoring, liquidity provisioning, token swaps, prediction market positions, and perpetual futures trading.

The application programming interface natively connects with popular AI development tools including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, and OpenCode. Developers can deploy autonomous agents across Hyperliquid alongside standard Ethereum Virtual Machine networks.

Unlike traditional wallet setups that grant automated systems unrestricted private key access, Agent Wallet introduces a rules-based security framework where owners define daily spending caps, permitted smart contract protocols, and overall risk parameters before allocating capital. Users preserve complete self-custody throughout the execution cycle, maintaining sole control over master private keys and seed recovery phrases.

To simplify agent operations, the platform integrates full gas fee abstraction. Automated scripts can execute transactions or token swaps without needing to maintain separate balances of a network’s native utility asset for transaction fees. Instead, MetaMask automatically deducts and settles network gas costs directly using the specific cryptocurrency being transferred or traded during the transaction.

Guardrail Security Modes and Transaction Protection Coverage

Agent Wallet structures system autonomy around two primary operating configurations designed for varying risk tolerances. The default setting, known as Guard Mode, automatically intercepts any transaction that exceeds pre-set spending thresholds, attempts interaction with unapproved smart contracts, or triggers risk policy flags.

When triggered, the wallet pauses execution and sends a two-factor authentication request to the user via MetaMask Mobile or email for manual authorization. Alternatively, an advanced configuration called Beast Mode streamlines execution by reducing operational approval prompts for high-frequency strategies while maintaining active backend threat checks for potentially malicious contract interactions.

All supported EVM transactions undergo real-time transaction simulation, automated threat scanning, and routing through MetaMask’s Smart Transactions framework to defend against front-running and maximal extractable value exploits. Transactions clearing these security checks become eligible for up to $10,000 in monthly Transaction Protection reimbursement if a system anomaly leads to direct financial loss. However, MetaMask emphasizes that this coverage is subject to specific terms and does not insure against standard market volatility, bad trading decisions, or unsupported protocol interactions.

The release places MetaMask in direct competition with rival Web3 infrastructure providers building financial tools for autonomous software agents, including Coinbase with its Agentic Wallets and MoonPay with its natural-language MoonAgents platform.
