Coinbase reported 18,071 BTC in its own investment and operating holdings as of September 30, with a combined quarter-end fair value of approximately $1.51 billion. Its October 29 SEC filing separates those balances from the cryptocurrency it safeguards for customers.
The larger component was 17,954 BTC held for investment, valued at approximately $1.50 billion. That balance increased by 2,565 BTC, or about 16.7%, from 15,389 BTC at the end of 2025. This measures growth between reporting dates, not a separately announced trade.
Coinbase separately held 117 BTC for operations, worth about $9.8 million at quarter-end, compared with 487 BTC at December 31. Together, the investment and operating categories produce the 18,071 BTC total.
The company describes its investment crypto assets as primarily long-term holdings and may add more through a buy-and-hold strategy. It can also sell those assets for liquidity needs or other occasional purposes.
These corporate holdings are distinct from Coinbase’s institutional business and customer custody assets. They represent a September 30 snapshot, with quarter-end accounting values, rather than a real-time wallet total or a purchase announced today.
