Coinbase is seeing strong institutional demand for crypto assets and tokenization as traditional finance deepens its involvement in digital markets, Liz Martin, co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, said in an October 7 Bloomberg interview on the sidelines of TOKEN2049 in Singapore.
Martin attributed the interest to greater regulatory clarity and transparency, saying institutions are increasingly prepared to commit capital. Conversations have shifted from whether to enter crypto toward choosing products and expanding exposure. Clients now ask “which product do I use and how do I get bigger?” she said.
Tokenization is another source of demand. Martin said roughly 60% of Coinbase’s institutional clients express interest in tokenization and investing in tokenized assets, citing surveys of its own customer base. Institutions also want to use blockchain infrastructure to distribute funds and move collateral around the clock.
The trend is reflected in Coinbase’s Citi partnership, which CoinScreamer previously covered. The companies announced expanded cooperation on September 28: Citi’s banking infrastructure will power Coinbase Virtual Accounts, while Spring by Citi will offer stablecoin acceptance with automatic conversion to fiat for merchant settlement.
Coinbase also partnered with Stablecore to bring custody, trading and stablecoin payments into community banks’ existing platforms. The September initiative is already underway with institutions including Amarillo National Bank. Stablecore’s integrations potentially reach more than 3,000 US banks and credit unions; that figure does not represent confirmed adoption by all of them.
