Key Notes

  • Bitcoin traded below $77,000 in a time-stamped Coinbase spot snapshot.
  • Ether, XRP and Solana were also below $2,250, $1.25 and $95 respectively.
  • CoinGlass tracked about $163 million in four-hour long liquidations across its monitored markets.

Bitcoin slipped below $77,000 on November 2 as selling pressure spread across major cryptocurrencies. Ether traded below $2,250, XRP below $1.25 and Solana below $95 in a fresh exchange-price snapshot.

The decline leaves Bitcoin below its opening level for the UTC day, while Solana has retreated further into the low-$90 range. Leveraged bullish positions also accounted for most of the liquidations recorded across CoinGlass’s tracked derivatives markets.

Bitcoin and Major Altcoins Trade Below Key Levels

At approximately 19:13 UTC on November 2, Coinbase’s public spot-price feeds showed:

  • Bitcoin: approximately $76,849.
  • Ether: approximately $2,246.
  • XRP: approximately $1.2396.
  • Solana: approximately $91.69.

These are time-stamped quotes from one exchange, rather than a consolidated market price. Levels can differ across venues and change quickly.

Coinbase Exchange’s hourly candles, retrieved at 19:14 UTC, put Bitcoin’s opening price for the day near $78,232. It had traded as high as $78,762 and as low as $76,707. The corresponding intraday lows were approximately $2,241 for ETH, $1.2333 for XRP and $91.42 for SOL.

Long Positions Bear Most of the Liquidations

A CoinGlass snapshot at 19:14 UTC showed approximately $169.73 million in liquidations over four hours, including $163 million of longs and $6.73 million of shorts. Longs represented roughly 96% of that total.

The separate one-hour window showed $20.32 million in total liquidations, of which $19.21 million were longs. These are overlapping rolling windows and should not be added together. CoinGlass’s aggregate includes non-crypto-linked perpetual contracts alongside cryptocurrency markets.

Liquidation is the forced closure of a leveraged position when its remaining collateral no longer meets an exchange’s requirements. The figures measure the notional size of closed positions, rather than an equivalent amount of investor cash disappearing.

Exchange Security Remains in Focus

The sell-off comes as the industry continues responding to recent security incidents. CoinScreamer’s withdrawal reopening report covers Binance’s phased restart following its October 29 breach.

Separately, our Mercado Bitcoin report follows the Brazilian exchange’s security incident and Tether’s subsequent freeze announcement. Those developments form part of the news backdrop; the price and liquidation data alone do not establish a single cause for the latest selling.
