Standard Chartered has launched tokenized deposits in Hong Kong, allowing eligible corporate clients to move bank money around the clock across participating institutions through the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s EnsembleTX infrastructure.
The bank’s November 2 launch announcement says China AMC, Finloop and PantherTrade have already completed live deposit transactions and settlement of tokenized money market funds.
Bank Deposits Enter Digital Treasury Workflows
The service uses Standard Chartered’s own blockchain infrastructure to represent commercial bank deposits in programmable form. It targets corporate treasurers, banks, investment platforms and digital-asset businesses, including companies managing liquidity between entities within the same group.
Transfers can take place in real time between participating banks, with the interbank leg settled in central bank money, including wholesale central bank digital currency. The deposit token used by a client and the central bank asset used between banks perform different roles.
Standard Chartered is also working with Fireblocks to bring banking access into its digital-asset platform ecosystem. HashKey has joined the ecosystem, and the bank plans expansion to other markets without announcing a timetable.
Hong Kong Extends Settlement Beyond Banking Hours
In a separate settlement update, the HKMA said EnsembleTX now supports 24/7 interbank settlement using tokenized central bank money. Participation has expanded to 12 banks and 20 industry pioneers.
EnsembleTX began real-value activity in November 2025 within a controlled pilot environment, initially using Hong Kong’s dollar Real Time Gross Settlement system. The upgrade extends the settlement window; it does not give every bank customer or public crypto wallet automatic access.
A Cash Layer for Tokenized Investments
CoinScreamer’s ChinaAMC fund coverage examined Hong Kong’s separate launch of round-the-clock secondary trading in tokenized fund interests. Trading fund units and moving the cash used to settle them are distinct parts of that infrastructure.
The corporate application also echoes the Uber treasury pilot, which used HSBC deposit tokens to buy Franklin Templeton fund shares on Canton. That was a different bank and network, rather than an extension of Standard Chartered’s Hong Kong service.
Neither the bank’s release nor the HKMA’s update discloses transaction volumes, client pricing or a general retail rollout date.
