Key Notes
- The Lisk Portal and Bridge closed on November 2 as the L2 shutdown proceeds in stages.
- A manual claims process is planned for January 2027, but asset recovery is not guaranteed.
- About 5.2 million LSK in leftover rewards will be burned, while the business and Ethereum token continue.
Lisk has officially closed its Ethereum Layer 2 network, shutting the Lisk Portal and Lisk Bridge on November 2 while winding down the remaining infrastructure. Users with assets left on the chain face uncertain recovery, with a manual claims process planned for January 2027.
The company’s closure notice distinguishes the network’s retirement from the future of Lisk itself. The business is continuing as a finance platform, and LSK remains on Ethereum.
Lisk confirms the chain closure and its transition to business finance.

January Claims Are Planned, Recovery Is Not Guaranteed
Lisk says user-facing services closed first, with the rest of the chain being switched off behind them. Its FAQ does not guarantee the recovery of assets remaining on the network.
The team plans to introduce manual claims in January and publish details then. That is a proposed process, not a commitment that funds will be returned in January. The notice does not set out eligibility rules, required documents or a payout timetable.
About 5.2 Million LSK in Rewards Face a Burn
After the chain is fully shut down, Lisk plans to burn approximately 5.2 million LSK remaining in the staking rewards contract. The balance includes rewards never allocated and rewards earned but not claimed. The FAQ explicitly says users’ staked LSK is not part of that burn.
The investor page lists 5,239,703 LSK earmarked for destruction in figures dated October 26. It treats those tokens separately from circulating supply and company or foundation holdings. The announced burn is a future action; the closure notice is not evidence that the transaction has already been executed.
LSK’s Ethereum contract remains in place. Lisk describes it as unable to mint new tokens, with zero inflation. Its planned loyalty uses, including rewards and platform-fee payments, are scheduled to begin rolling out in 2027.
Lisk Shifts From Running a Chain to Business Finance
Founder Max Kordek’s strategy announcement, originally published in August and since updated, describes a workspace for accounts, payments and approvals across business entities. It combines traditional currencies with stablecoin payment rails and remains in Early Access for qualified businesses.
The product offers consolidated balances, payment-approval policies and bank-transfer and stablecoin workflows. Corporate cards, additional treasury tools and payroll integrations are described as future development areas, rather than universally available features.
The updated announcement says holders whose LSK is already on Ethereum or an exchange do not need to take action for this chain closure. That statement does not mean assets stranded on the retired L2 have automatically moved to Ethereum.
CoinScreamer’s shutdown directory examined why a chain retirement, a company closure and a token’s continued existence need separate treatment. Our Nillion coverage describes another L2 retirement accompanying continued development on Ethereum. Each project’s exit arrangements are specific to its network; Nillion’s bridge guidance does not provide an exit route for Lisk users.
