Key Notes

  • Aave Labs acquired Avon’s fixed-rate and floating-rate lending protocols, onchain order book, domains and related assets.
  • Prince Sinha and Ayush Kaul will join engineering, while Omar el-Ashaal joins business development.
  • Fixed-rate lending is the first priority, but the purchase price and a product launch date have not been disclosed.

Aave Labs has acquired Avon’s team and technology as it prepares to expand fixed-rate lending, adding specialist credit-market expertise to one of decentralized finance’s largest borrowing networks.

The acquisition announcement, published on November 6, includes Avon’s fixed-rate and floating-rate lending protocols, its onchain order book, domains and related assets. The team will continue developing that technology within Aave Labs.

Financial terms were not disclosed, according to The Block. The announcement gives no launch date or pricing for a new fixed-rate product. PYMNTS also reported that fixed-rate lending is the first priority for the acquired team.

The Team Behind the Technology

Avon founder Prince Sinha and Ayush Kaul are joining Aave Labs’ engineering team. Omar el-Ashaal will join business development as an associate. Avon’s work has spanned interest-rate pricing, risk isolation, and market design, alongside the software included in the transaction.

For Aave Labs, the purchase brings together technology and the people who developed it. Its stated ambition is to offer a wider range of credit products to institutions, fintech businesses, and individual users.

Why Fixed Rates Matter

Much of onchain borrowing revolves around rates that respond to the amount of available liquidity and demand for loans. Aave’s FAQ explains that borrowing costs depend on an asset’s supply-and-demand balance and the interest-rate curve parameters set through governance.

A fixed rate can make interest expenses more predictable over an agreed period. That can help a borrower compare financing choices or plan future cash needs without relying on today’s variable rate remaining unchanged. The commercial question is what borrowers will pay for that certainty and how a lending market supplies it.

Rate predictability is only one part of a loan’s risk. Aave’s existing collateralized borrowing model also requires users to monitor their collateral and liquidation thresholds. A rate fixed by contract would not, by itself, keep the market value of collateral from falling.

Building Beyond Crypto-Native Borrowers

Aave’s acquisition statement cites more than $33 billion in deposits and over $13 billion in active loans. Those are company-reported figures accompanying the announcement, rather than an independently verified live reading of the protocol’s balances.

The acquisition fits a wider effort to bring lending into products offered by financial businesses. Aave Kit lets fintechs build savings and borrowing services, while Horizon focuses on institutional borrowing against tokenized real-world assets.

CoinScreamer’s earlier Citi Research coverage examined that collateral opportunity: qualified borrowers can obtain stablecoin liquidity against eligible tokenized investments without first selling them. Citi’s research discussion did not constitute an investment in Aave or a commercial agreement.

Avon adds another area of credit-market expertise to that expansion. The next step is turning the acquired technology into available products, with their rates, terms and rollout still to be announced.
