Key Notes

  • World Liberty Financial announced new WLFI buybacks but did not disclose a budget or purchase schedule.
  • Funding may include fees earned from USD1 reserves and other sources, rather than a stated use of reserve principal.
  • WLFI and TRUMP have reached record lows, while early WLFI buyers entered at different prices and some tokens remain locked.

World Liberty Financial has announced a new buyback program for its WLFI governance token as the Trump-family-backed project faces a deep market slump. The company said purchases could be funded partly with fees earned from reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin, but did not disclose the size of the initial allocation.

The November 6 announcement framed the program around governance participation and increasing the influence of committed long-term holders. It provided no purchase timetable, execution report, or guaranteed price target.

USD1 Reserve Fees Could Fund Purchases

World Liberty said the initial funding may include fees from USD1 reserves and other sources. It intends to assess the program over time, with the pace and scale of subsequent buybacks guided by ecosystem growth and their effect on governance participation.

The funding language is conditional. Fees earned from reserve assets are distinct from the principal backing outstanding stablecoins. The announcement did not say that USD1’s backing would be spent on WLFI purchases.

USD1 and WLFI also serve different purposes. USD1 is the project’s dollar stablecoin, whose planned expansion into merchant payments CoinScreamer covered through its Mesh partnership. WLFI is the separate governance token. Growth in one does not guarantee a higher market price for the other.

Both Trump-Linked Tokens Have Hit Record Lows

CoinDesk reported on November 6 that WLFI had fallen about 10% since the midterm vote and more than 66% since the start of the year. That year-to-date decline is separate from its larger drawdown from its all-time high.

WLFI price data from CoinGecko place its record low at roughly $0.04370 on November 5, against a September 2025 peak near $0.3313. The low was about 87% below that peak.

The separate Official Trump memecoin has suffered an even deeper drawdown. TRUMP data show a November 5 record low of $1.12, compared with a January 2025 high of $73.43. Both tokens subsequently traded above those lows when the data were checked.

Early Buyers Had Different Entry Prices

The declines do not establish that every early buyer purchased at the top. World Liberty’s official FAQ identifies public-sale rounds at $0.015 and $0.05 between late 2024 and early 2025. Those entry prices differ substantially from the token’s later exchange peak, and some early-supporter tokens remain locked.

Nor is this World Liberty’s first repurchase effort. CoinDesk reported that the company disclosed $65.6 million of open-market buybacks in April, covering the preceding six months. That historical figure is not the budget for the newly announced program.

The project’s token disclosures state that WLFI does not confer equity, dividends or ownership in the company. The buyback announcement supplies no guaranteed exit price. It also leaves unspecified whether newly repurchased tokens would be burned, retained or distributed. Its significance will depend on the funding committed and purchases actually completed.
