Japan-based Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet has launched a new venture investment unit aimed at supporting the development of Bitcoin-related startups. The new entity, Metaplanet Ventures K.K., will focus on funding and incubating companies building financial infrastructure around Bitcoin, particularly within Japan’s domestic market.
The initiative will operate across three programs covering venture investment, incubation, and grants. Metaplanet said it plans to allocate around 4 billion yen, or approximately $25 million, over the next two to three years. The funding will support projects focused on Bitcoin payments, lending platforms, Lightning Network infrastructure, stablecoins, and tokenization technologies.
The move reflects growing institutional interest in building infrastructure around Bitcoin rather than solely holding it as a treasury asset. Metaplanet said its long-term strategy still centers on accumulating Bitcoin while helping strengthen Japan’s digital asset ecosystem as regulatory frameworks for crypto assets continue to develop in the country.
