Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) has partnered with Bitpanda Enterprise to create a common digital asset framework for its Central and Eastern European (CEE) banking network, potentially bringing crypto services within reach of up to 18 million customers.
According to Bitpanda, the agreement gives RBI network banks the infrastructure needed to introduce digital asset services in their respective markets, while individual banks decide what products to offer and when to launch them based on local regulations and market conditions.
The arrangement expands a model already deployed by Raiffeisen banks in Austria, where customers access cryptocurrencies through their existing banking environment rather than opening separate accounts on external crypto platforms. Bitpanda Enterprise provides the underlying digital asset technology for the network, creating a standardized setup across participating institutions.
RBI Bitpanda Partnership Builds on Austrian Crypto Rollout
Raiffeisen’s work with Bitpanda began at Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien (RLB NÖ-Wien), which became one of the early traditional European Union banks to offer retail crypto access natively within its existing app environment. Other Austrian entities, including Raiffeisen Landesbank Tirol, followed by launching digital asset services via Bitpanda Enterprise in mid-2026.
The new agreement takes this single-market setup and establishes a broader group framework across RBI’s 11 CEE markets, covering roughly 42,000 employees and 1,300 outlets. Each network bank will determine its specific product roadmap, rollout timeline, and compliance strategy based on local demand and MiCA regulatory requirements.
Bitpanda Expands Its Banking Infrastructure Business
The deal highlights Bitpanda Enterprise’s ongoing push into B2B financial infrastructure, offering white-label trading, custody, liquidity, payments, stablecoin issuance, and asset tokenization.
The firm’s institutional reach includes key banking partnerships with BW-Bank and Deutsche Bank to provide payment rails, local IBAN integration, and digital asset custody infrastructure. Additionally, Bitpanda supplies market data, trading connectivity, and liquidity to support IG Europe’s regional expansion. Supported by a growing user base of over 7.4 million retail clients, the company reported €371 million in adjusted revenue for 2025, marking a 16% year-over-year increase.
European Banks Expand Regulated Crypto Services Under MiCA
The partnership arrives amid growing institutional crypto adoption across Europe. Data from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) shows traditional banks represented nearly 23% of entities listed on the official crypto provider register by mid-September 2026, driven in part by German cooperative banks entering the market.
Under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation, credit institutions benefit from a streamlined notification route to offer covered digital asset services via home regulators. While regulatory enforcement continues, such as Austria’s Financial Market Authority issuing a €70,000 fine to Bitpanda in August over marketing compliance, traditional financial institutions continue expanding their role as primary access points for regulated digital assets.
