North Korea has rejected U.S. accusations linking it to Binance’s roughly $6.3 billion hack, with Kim Yo Jong calling the allegations a political provocation. Yonhap reported the response in a dispatch published late November 2 UTC, or the morning of November 3 in South Korea.

Citing the Korean Central News Agency, Yonhap said Kim issued her statement on November 2. She dismissed Washington’s claims as absurd rumors and accused the United States of portraying North Korea as responsible for cybercrime around the world.

Kim also warned that Washington’s hostile posture gave Pyongyang matters to reconsider in several areas. Yonhap described the statement in her name as unusual compared with North Korea’s previous denials of responsibility for cryptocurrency thefts.

The denial follows the FBI’s October 31 attribution of the theft of more than $6 billion from Binance to North Korea’s TraderTraitor activity. The bureau said it and its U.S. Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation partners had observed stolen assets being converted primarily into ether.

U.S. investigators have urged crypto businesses to block transactions connected to listed laundering addresses. Binance’s separate withdrawal recovery has reopened selected routes across 15 networks. North Korea’s response disputes responsibility; it does not announce a change in the FBI’s published assessment or the status of the stolen funds.
