Bitcoin returned above $84,000 on October 21, trading near $84,124 on Coinbase around 14:46 UTC. The exchange’s market data showed a gain of about 1.1% over the preceding 24 hours, with a high near $84,219 and a low around $82,119.
CoinGlass liquidation data showed nearly $97 million in short positions closed across the wider market over 12 hours. Its dashboard recorded $96.69 million in short liquidations and $33.13 million in long liquidations, bringing the combined total to approximately $129.82 million.
Bitcoin accounted for about $37.78 million of those short liquidations, alongside $3.40 million in liquidated longs. Ethereum shorts contributed another $24.18 million. The headline market-wide figure therefore includes positions in multiple assets rather than Bitcoin alone.
Short liquidations occur when adverse price moves leave leveraged bearish positions without sufficient margin. Their forced closure can add buying pressure during an advance, although liquidation totals alone do not establish what initially drove the move or whether it will continue.
The advance follows Bitcoin’s earlier trading near $83,200, when CoinScreamer covered CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju’s capital-flow assessment. Ju described fresh capital as a bullish signal that on-chain interpretation is separate from the derivatives positions tracked in CoinGlass’s rolling liquidation figures.
