Key Notes

  • VanEck has launched WBMO with exposure to stocks, bonds, gold and Bitcoin through underlying funds.
  • VanEck specifies a 2% Bitcoin target within a 1–5% range.
  • WBMO’s annual expense ratio is 0.26% after waivers, including estimated underlying-fund costs.

VanEck has launched the Wealth Builder ETF, ticker WBMO, combining global stocks, bonds, gold and Bitcoin exposure in one actively managed fund. The product trades on NYSE Arca and gives VanEck responsibility for selecting and rebalancing the underlying investments.

The October 27 announcement positions WBMO as a broader alternative to conventional stock-and-bond portfolios. Its Bitcoin exposure comes through exchange-traded products, rather than direct ownership of the cryptocurrency.

A 2% Bitcoin Target, With Room to Adjust

VanEck’s FAQ specifies a 2% target for Bitcoin, within a permitted 1–5% range. The company treats digital assets separately from its real-assets allocation and says it obtains Bitcoin exposure through a spot Bitcoin ETP.

That makes Bitcoin a small allocation within the wider portfolio. Investors buy WBMO shares through a brokerage account; they do not need a crypto wallet or control the keys to the underlying Bitcoin.

The published holdings provide a separate, dated snapshot. As of October 26, VanEck’s HODL Bitcoin ETF represented 1.89% of WBMO’s net assets. That position weight can change and should be distinguished from the stated 2% target.

The same snapshot lists the VanEck Merk Gold ETF, OUNZ, at 3.63%, alongside funds tracking US and international equities and Treasury bonds. These are holdings in underlying products, rather than a complete calculation of WBMO’s ultimate exposure across every asset class.

One ETF, Built From Other Funds

WBMO uses both VanEck products and funds managed by outside firms. Its managers combine broad market exposure with more focused investments linked to themes such as technology, natural resources and infrastructure.

The strategy builds on the firm’s Wealth Builder model-portfolio approach. VanEck clarifies that WBMO is a separate fund, however, and does not reproduce any single Wealth Builder Plus model. Its holdings, weights and performance will differ from those models.

The investment objective is long-term capital growth and current income. The prospectus describes a discretionary allocation process using economic analysis, expected market returns, and assessments of underlying funds’ costs, liquidity and investment strategies.

Net Expenses Are 0.26%

WBMO’s disclosed annual operating expense ratio is 0.33% before waivers and 0.26% after them. Those totals include estimated acquired-fund expenses: costs borne indirectly through the products WBMO owns.

The 0.15% management fee is therefore only one component of the overall cost. Brokerage commissions and trading spreads can also apply when investors buy or sell ETF shares.

The allocation model differs from the options-based approach in BlackRock’s proposed Bitcoin protection fund. WBMO distributes investments across several markets; it does not promise a downside floor. VanEck notes that diversification and active management do not prevent losses.
