Key Notes

  • Strategy bought 267 BTC for $22.1 million at an average $82,900, taking its treasury to 848,517 BTC.
  • It repurchased $193.1 million of STRC and raised the total preferred-security buyback authorization to $3 billion.
  • The USD Reserve was $4.83 billion, with a separate $447.3 million USD Cash balance.

Strategy acquired 267 Bitcoin for $22.1 million last week, taking its treasury to 848,517 BTC, while spending substantially more on repurchasing its STRC preferred shares. The company also expanded its digital credit securities repurchase authorization from $2 billion to $3 billion.

The October 19 announcement covers transactions from October 12 through October 18. Strategy’s linked Form 8-K reports an average purchase price of $82,900 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses. The update combines continued Bitcoin accumulation with a larger commitment to managing the preferred securities used in its capital structure.

Common-share proceeds fund the Bitcoin purchase

Strategy sold 140,872 MSTR common shares through its at-the-market program, generating $22 million in net proceeds after sales commissions. It used those proceeds, together with $100,000 from its separate USD Cash balance, to finance the Bitcoin acquisition.

The filing reports no sales of STRF, STRC, STRK or STRD preferred stock through the ATM program during the period. This week’s purchase was therefore primarily financed through common-share issuance, rather than a new preferred-stock offering.

As of October 18, Strategy’s full Bitcoin position had an aggregate acquisition cost of $64.02 billion and an average cost of $75,446 per coin, including fees and expenses. Those are historical purchase-cost figures, rather than a current market valuation of its holdings.

The total rises from the 848,250 BTC disclosed in the previous weekly update. CoinScreamer’s October 12 report covered that earlier 250 BTC purchase and $192.4 million of STRC repurchases.

A $3 billion ceiling, with $1.16 billion remaining

Strategy repurchased 1,938,780 STRC shares for $193.1 million during the latest week. The filing identifies USD Cash as the funding source. Its board also increased the overall preferred-security repurchase authorization by $1 billion.

The new $3 billion ceiling includes repurchases already completed under the program, as well as commissions, fees and expenses. After accounting for the increase, Strategy reported $1.16 billion of remaining capacity. It is not announcing an additional $3 billion of purchases still to come.

The common-stock repurchase program remains separate. Strategy reported no MSTR repurchases during the week and $1 billion still available under that authorization. Selling common shares through an ATM program and repurchasing preferred shares are distinct transactions affecting different securities.

The reserve and cash account serve different purposes

Strategy reported a $4.83 billion USD Reserve and $447.3 million in USD Cash as of October 18. Together, those disclosed balances amount to about $5.28 billion, or roughly $5.3 billion when rounded. The designated USD Reserve alone was $4.83 billion.

The reserve is intended to support preferred dividends and interest on outstanding debt. USD Cash supports broader treasury and capital-management purposes, including Bitcoin purchases, expanding the reserve and securities repurchases.

During the week, Strategy used $45.5 million from the reserve to pay preferred dividends. Separately, its USD Cash account funded the $193.1 million STRC buyback and the $100,000 contribution to the Bitcoin acquisition.

The update follows Strategy’s conditional dividend plan for STRC. The proposed daily November schedule remains subject to shareholder approval and the required amendments taking effect; the latest purchase-and-buyback filing does not itself satisfy those conditions.
