Key Notes

  • Echo Protocol has stopped new deposits, borrowing, staking and lending interest accrual as it winds down.
  • Borrowers are told to repay by November 14, ahead of the final November 19 at 23:59 UTC withdrawal and unstaking cutoff.
  • Remaining positions will enter liquidation or settlement, while the Aptos-to-B² bridge is intended to remain available for aBTC redemptions.

Echo Protocol is winding down after nearly two years, ending new deposits, borrowing and staking while asking users to repay debt and withdraw their assets. The Bitcoin-focused DeFi project has set November 19, 2026, at 23:59 UTC as its final withdrawal and unstaking deadline, with an earlier November 14 repayment instruction for borrowers.

The team announced the closure on October 19. Its notice says lending interest accrual has stopped and existing repayment, withdrawal and necessary liquidation functions remain available during the transition.

Echo’s combined total value locked peaked at approximately $878.4 million on May 9, 2025, according to DefiLlama’s historical data. The tracker also flags unproductive positions in Echo Lending that may inflate metrics. The peak measures assets tracked in the protocol, rather than revenue or a sum the team says was lost.

Borrowers face the earlier November 14 deadline

Echo’s instructions require outstanding borrowers to repay by November 14. Loans left unpaid after that date may have their collateral liquidated, with the proceeds used to meet obligations to lenders.

The notice says Echo will cease ordinary operations after November 14. Separately, its timeline gives November 19 at 23:59 UTC as the final cutoff for repayments, withdrawals and unstaking. That later reference to repayments does not remove the earlier warning about collateral liquidation after November 14.

For lending users, the team’s stated sequence is to repay outstanding debt, release collateral and withdraw available assets. Strategy users are asked to initiate exits promptly and claim when eligible. Liquid-staking users should use the existing unstake-and-claim process.

Those requests may take time to complete. Echo says claim availability for Strategy and liquid-staking positions depends on the underlying staking or unstaking request, so starting an exit is not the same as having assets ready to claim.

After the November 19 cutoff, remaining positions will enter liquidation or settlement as applicable. Echo has not confirmed the final dates for collateral liquidation, distribution of proceeds or completion of the wind-down. The Aptos-to-B² bridge is intended to remain available for aBTC redemptions.

Another exit, with its own withdrawal rules

The announcement follows StandX’s decision to close and cancel its token launch. That derivatives platform has a different schedule, including compulsory position closure on January 15, 2027, and an end to regular withdrawals and new DUSD redemption requests on January 31.

CoinScreamer has also covered Abstract’s December 15 network shutdown and Blast’s October 26 withdrawal-interface cutoff. Those concern blockchain networks, whereas Echo’s notice covers its lending, strategy and staking services. Their deadlines and recovery arrangements do not apply to Echo positions.

Echo did not provide a detailed financial explanation for its decision. It says further settlement updates will come through official channels and warns users to ignore requests to transfer funds or privately sign transactions for wallet addresses.
