Circle’s euro-backed stablecoin, EURC, has surpassed €400 million in circulation following a sustained period of adoption across digital asset exchanges, payment networks, and institutional settlement platforms. In an August 17 update, Circle confirmed that EURC’s supply more than doubled over the past 12 months, with official metrics showing €402.4 million in total circulation as of August 13, 2026.

The growth reflects a notable shift in European digital asset markets, where euro-denominated stablecoins historically lacked deep liquidity compared to US dollar-pegged alternatives like USDT and USDC. Circle’s expansion strategy has positioned EURC as a primary digital asset for market participants seeking a 1:1 euro-redeemable token within compliant, multi-chain ecosystems.

Blockchain Expansion and Multi-Exchange Distribution

Originally launched on Ethereum in June 2022, EURC’s supply expansion accelerated after Circle introduced native issuance across additional networks, including Avalanche, Stellar, Solana, and Base starting in 2023. By late 2024, the token’s circulating supply stood at approximately €80 million before experiencing significant growth throughout 2025 and 2026.

Exchange liquidity for EURC has expanded alongside its multi-chain deployment. Major digital asset venues, including Bitpanda, Bitstamp, Bybit, Coinbase, and Kraken, have established direct EURC trading pairs against fiat euros and US dollar stablecoins. This distribution enables market participants to execute cross-currency settlement and foreign exchange operations without requiring intermediary conversions through dollar-denominated assets.

Institutional Infrastructure and Payment Network Integrations

Circle has deepened EURC’s institutional footprint through partnerships across custody, payment processing, and traditional market infrastructure.

Institutional providers including Cobo, Copper, and Fireblocks support EURC custody, while fiat access points like MoonPay, Ramp, Transak, and Mercuryo manage euro on- and off-ramps.

Integrations with Visa and Mastercard have expanded EURC’s utility for cross-border merchant settlement, card-linked payments, and corporate treasury management across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In September 2025, Deutsche Börse agreed to integrate Circle’s stablecoins into its European infrastructure, facilitating trading on 360T’s 3DX digital exchange and clearing via Clearstream.

MiCA Compliance and European Market Dynamics

EURC operates under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation as an electronic money token (EMT). Issuance is managed through Circle Mint France, which secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from French regulators in July 2024. Under this structure, EURC reserves are held in segregated accounts subject to monthly third-party attestations, providing institutional account holders with direct 1:1 redemption rights.

While overall euro stablecoin circulation reached approximately €650 million by June 2026, the market remains small relative to the total global stablecoin market capitalization of roughly $300 billion. EURC holds a dominant market share in the euro segment, but competition is expected to intensify as banking consortia, such as the 37-bank Qivalis group, prepare their own MiCA-compliant euro tokens.

To further encourage adoption, Circle continues to advocate for regulatory adjustments within the European Union. In March 2026, the company urged policymakers to refine proposed settlement thresholds under the European Commission’s Market Integration Package, seeking to lower barriers for non-significant e-money tokens to participate in institutional DLT settlement frameworks.
