CZ Asks Trust Wallet to Simplify Hidden Coin Controls After Spam Floods Wallet

Following the retirement of his public crypto address due to meme coin spam, Changpeng "CZ" Zhao acknowledged the practical value of Trust Wallet's token-hiding feature and called for easier user interface access.

Binance co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao recently reversed his stance on token-hiding features in crypto wallets, urging Trust Wallet to make its existing coin-control settings easier for everyday users to access. Zhao noted that while Trust Wallet already offers an option to ignore unwanted assets, finding the setting currently requires navigating through a cumbersome five-step process.

The comments follow Zhao’s decision to retire a heavily monitored public wallet address. Community members and token creators routinely flooded the address with unsolicited meme coins and promotional tokens on the BNB Chain, hoping that appearing in his public wallet portfolio would attract market attention and investor interest.

From Initial Skepticism to Practical Interface Need

Zhao initially doubted whether average wallet users needed dedicated controls to conceal random tokens. However, after feedback from the crypto community highlighted how frequently public addresses receive unsolicited assets, Zhao publicly acknowledged that he had misjudged the feature’s utility. Members of the Trust Wallet team subsequently informed him that an ignore option was already built into the application.

Following those discussions, Zhao expressed his personal expectation that Trust Wallet would streamline access to the control in upcoming interface revisions. However, Trust Wallet has not issued a formal product announcement, confirmed specific design updates, or published a release schedule regarding changes to portfolio display settings.

How Token Hiding Works on Public Blockchains

Public blockchain architectures allow any user to transfer compatible tokens to an address without requiring approval from the recipient. Because wallet software functions as a display interface rather than a permission gatekeeper, hiding a token within an app changes only the local screen view. It does not reverse the transaction, erase the record from public block explorers, or prevent future transfers to that address.

Concealing a token is also distinct from burning an asset, which involves permanently removing tokens from circulation by sending them to an unspendable burn address. When Zhao retired his public address, he transferred roughly $965,000 in BNB and local tokens to Giggle Academy, effectively treating the old address as inactive without surrendering underlying private keys.

Security Context and Next Steps for Users

Receiving unsolicited tokens or dust transfers does not inherently compromise wallet security. Trust Wallet guidelines emphasize that primary security risks stem from interacting with unfamiliar smart contracts, clicking links embedded in token names, or approving spending allowances for untrusted applications. Simply receiving or hiding a token on the display screen leaves private keys secure.

Trust Wallet may choose to move the ignore feature closer to the main portfolio screen in future software builds to help users manage cluttered balances. Until official release notes arrive, users can continue accessing the existing controls through the app settings, while exercising caution when interacting with unrecognized on-chain assets.
