Ripple Mints 10 Million RLUSD on XRP Ledger as Total Supply Reaches 1.71 Billion

Ripple authorized a fresh 10 million RLUSD mint on the XRP Ledger on August 17, bringing total circulating supply to 1.71 billion as the firm expands its stablecoin infrastructure globally.

Ripple executed a new 10 million Ripple USD issuance on the XRP Ledger on August 17, pushing the stablecoin’s total circulating supply back toward the 1.711 billion mark. The multi-signature transaction cost 0.000405 XRP to finalize, moving the newly minted tokens directly into a designated RLUSD destination account.

While on-chain data confirms the technical creation of the assets, token issuance alone does not independently prove immediate institutional buying or retail market expansion. In stablecoin operations, fresh minting frequently reflects internal treasury management, inventory prep, or liquidity provisioning ahead of customer settlements rather than direct open-market demand.

Understanding Stablecoin Minting Dynamics

A stablecoin mint on a public blockchain represents the creation of tokens within controlled treasury accounts. It does not verify that the newly created assets have entered exchange order books, payment channels, or corporate portfolios. Issued tokens routinely sit in reserve wallets until an institutional client completes corresponding fiat deposit requirements.

Furthermore, single mint events must be analyzed alongside token burns across supported chains. For instance, public records show that 5 million RLUSD were recently burned on Ethereum. Issuers balance circulating supply across multiple networks through routine minting and burning, meaning individual transactions do not necessarily represent net permanent market growth.

Supply Fluctuations and Regulatory Oversight

Market tracking data from CoinGecko placed RLUSD’s circulating supply near 1.711 billion tokens on August 17, with a market capitalization reflecting roughly $1.71 billion. This total sits higher than Ripple’s official August 6 transparency update, which reported $1.5896 billion in circulation backed by $1.7026 billion in reserve assets.

The variance highlights the difference between historical monthly accounting snapshots and real-time blockchain activity. Standard Custody & Trust Company issues RLUSD under a limited purpose trust charter from the New York State Department of Financial Services. The arrangement ensures that RLUSD reserves, consisting of cash, cash equivalents, and short-term US Treasuries, undergo regular third-party attestations.

Expanding Institutional Infrastructure

The latest mint coincides with Ripple’s broader push to build institutional infrastructure around its stablecoin ecosystem. The firm introduced the Ripple Mint platform in July 2026, giving institutional clients web and API tools to automate minting, redeeming, and cross-chain monitoring workflows.

Internationally, Ripple continues to widen distribution. SBI VC Trade offers RLUSD to clients in Japan, while partnerships with BiLira, Bitexen, and Bitlo have expanded access across Türkiye. While these global distribution rails facilitate long-term adoption, public ledger records do not reveal the specific client behind the August 17 mint.

Subsequent wallet transfers from the recipient account will show whether these 10 million tokens move toward crypto exchanges, market makers, or payment providers. Ultimately, the next official monthly reserve attestation will provide the clearest formal snapshot of total circulating supply and reserve backing.
