Spanish digital asset platform Bit2Me has announced the launch of Bit2Shield, a legally distinct subsidiary registered as CryptoShield S.L., created to provide end-to-end forensic and operational support for criminal investigations involving cryptocurrencies.

Dedicated Infrastructure for Law Enforcement and Judicial Support

The unit will assist law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, and financial institutions throughout the entire lifespan of a digital asset seizure, ranging from initial search and wallet extraction to secure custody, court-certified forensic documentation, and ultimate liquidation. Bit2Shield will also conduct specialized training programs for judicial officers, law enforcement agents, and compliance personnel, while offering source-of-funds certification services.

The creation of Bit2Shield formalizes an operational pipeline that Bit2Me has maintained with government agencies. During 2025, the exchange processed approximately €1.5 million ($1.74 million) in seized digital assets on behalf of international and domestic authorities, including Interpol, Europol, and the Spanish National Police. Under these historical arrangements, Bit2Me utilized blockchain analytics software from Chainalysis to conduct on-chain tracing before converting confiscated cryptocurrencies into fiat currency for state accounts.

Custody Architecture and MiCA-Compliant Asset Liquidation

To ensure maximum operational security following physical or digital confiscation, Bit2Shield will store seized cryptocurrencies within dedicated offline cold wallets utilizing multi-signature authorization frameworks. Assets will remain in secure custody until competent judicial authorities issue formal disposition orders. When a court orders the liquidation of confiscated tokens, Bit2Shield will coordinate the technical sale through Bitcoinforme S.L., Bit2Me’s fully authorized entity registered under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework by Spain’s national securities regulator. Converted fiat proceeds will then be transferred directly into designated state bank accounts.

Bit2Me emphasized that Bit2Shield operates outside the scope of regulated Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs) under MiCA because its core services focus exclusively on digital forensics, investigative support, and educational training. Regulated activities, such as executing crypto-to-fiat conversions, remain restricted to Bitcoinforme S.L. This organizational separation follows the conclusion of the EU’s MiCA transition phase on July 1, during which only 281 of 1,343 operating entities secured proper regulatory authorization across the European Economic Area.

The launch aligns with a broader global trend where law enforcement bodies increasingly rely on specialized private sector infrastructure to manage seized digital assets. Globally, judicial agencies face growing operational requirements to securely store, trace, and liquidate confiscated cryptocurrencies resulting from complex fraud schemes, ransomware attacks, and criminal enforcement actions.
