Etherscan Connects to Claude for Wallet and Smart Contract Queries
Etherscan’s Claude connector brings read-only data from 60+ networks into chat without an API key, with limits on token-holdings queries.
Key Notes
- Etherscan brings public blockchain data from more than 60 networks into Claude chats.
- The keyless connector requires no Etherscan account and exposes 16 read-only tools.
- Token-holdings and other PRO tools require separate authenticated access.
Etherscan’s Claude connector lets users ask about public crypto wallets, transactions and smart contracts in ordinary language, bringing blockchain-explorer data directly into an AI conversation.
The integration covers more than 60 Ethereum-compatible networks, including Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum. It requires a Claude login, but no separate Etherscan account or API key. Its tools read public records without signing transactions or moving funds.
Anthropic’s directory listing identifies Etherscan as the developer and dates the connector’s addition to September 2026. The service is available through the directory rather than requiring users to configure their own data connection.
From a Wallet Address to a Chat Answer
Etherscan’s setup guide directs users to open its connector listing, sign in to Claude and select Connect to Claude. They can then start a new conversation and specify the network alongside an address or transaction hash.
Useful questions include:
- What is this address’s ETH balance on Base?
- Show its latest 20 transactions on Arbitrum.
- Who deployed this Ethereum contract, and is its source code verified?
- What are Ethereum’s current gas-price recommendations?
The supported lookups also include internal transactions, transaction receipts and status, token-transfer histories and event logs. Returned information retains exact addresses and transaction identifiers, and results can appear in an interactive explorer-style card.
Token Transfers Are Different From Token Holdings
The keyless connector has 16 tools and rate limits separate from Etherscan’s API plans. It supports native-coin balances and transfers involving ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 or ERC-1155 collectibles.
It does not include the PRO token-holdings tool. Asking how much USDC a wallet currently holds should therefore not be presented as an included portfolio lookup simply because USDC transfer history is available.
Etherscan’s tool reference also excludes token information, top-holder lists, funding-source analysis and address labels from keyless access. These capabilities are available through its authenticated MCP server with an API key and the applicable paid-plan access. That server exposes 21 tools in total.
Contract Inspection Without Transaction Authority
The connector can retrieve verified source code, deployment details and a contract’s ABI, the interface describing how software interacts with it. Etherscan’s demonstration uses the Ethereum USDC contract to explain its proxy structure and creation details.
Those records help explain what a contract is; retrieving verified code is not the same as establishing that it is safe. Users can check the underlying addresses, amounts and hashes against the explorer.
CoinScreamer previously covered MetaMask’s agent wallet, which enables software to execute transactions within user-defined constraints. Etherscan’s connector provides the information layer: it reads existing blockchain data and does not authorize a trade, approval or transfer.
