Social media platform X is in discussions to introduce stablecoin payments for content creators, according to an August 20, 2026. The platform is evaluating digital assets like Circle’s USDC to deliver royalties, aligning with broader industry tests around stablecoin-based influencer commissions.
The negotiations coincide with a major overhaul of X’s monetization framework. The company is phasing out its long-running Revenue Sharing program, with existing participant payouts ending September 7, to launch the Original Content Rewards Program. Under the new model, starting September 8 with initial disbursements scheduled for September 25, eligible creators earn revenue based on qualified impressions from verified Premium users. Integrating stablecoins could significantly reduce cross-border transfer friction and payment processing costs for international participants.
The move fits into owner Elon Musk’s vision of transforming X into an “everything app” centered around its financial service arm, X Money. Rolled out to US Premium subscribers in mid-2026, X Money currently operates as a fiat-based digital wallet offering peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, up to 6% yield, and a Visa debit card. While X Money currently lacks cryptocurrency functionality, Musk’s enterprise network, including SpaceX’s use of stablecoins for Starlink billing in emerging markets, provides a clear operational blueprint for adopting fiat-backed digital assets for global creator rewards.
