THORChain has halted trading across ten connected blockchains after an Ethereum block reorganization triggered an extra 10 ETH refund. In a November 1 update, the protocol said the recipient returned the excess funds, restoring the affected vault’s solvency.
Nodes will decide to re-enable chains as they are deemed safe.

The incident began at 11:34 UTC on October 31, when Ethereum replaced a block containing a deposit THORChain had already credited. After the swap missed its price limit, the vault refunded 10 ETH it had never received on the canonical chain. The sender’s actual deposit was also refunded.
An automatic solvency check detected the shortfall and stopped Ethereum swaps. Node operators halted ETH transaction signing within approximately two minutes, then paused other chains as a precaution. The team said all nodes detected the reorganization, but the deposit recheck did not obtain a clear answer in time.
The update listed Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Smart Chain, Tron, Zcash, Cosmos Hub, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Dogecoin as halted. Trading remained available on Avalanche, Base, THORChain’s native network and XRP Ledger.
Developers are preparing fixes, with node operators deciding when each chain is safe to reopen. THORChain warned that future reorganizations could expose the same refund flaw. Returning the 10 ETH resolved the immediate shortfall, but the update gave no timetable for restoring affected services.
