NEAR Intents general manager Alex Shevchenko says the team has identified the attacker behind its estimated $3.8 million exploit and is offering a 48-hour window to return the funds. In an October 2 post, he addressed the individual directly: “We have identified you, sir.”

Shevchenko listed three return addresses covering Bitcoin, BNB/Ethereum and Solana. He described the deadline as the last opportunity to use responsible disclosure, warning that the window would close after 48 hours. The message does not specify a bounty or legal assurances for cooperating.

The post does not name the suspected attacker or provide evidence supporting the identification claim. It also does not announce an arrest or confirm that assets have been recovered. The ultimatum represents a recovery demand, while the outcome remains unconfirmed in the statement.

The update follows the October 1 exploit that prompted NEAR Intents to halt services. The team attributed the incident to a bug in the interaction between Omni’s deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract, initially estimating losses at $3.8 million.

In its original incident update, the team said the contract-side vulnerability had been patched and pledged full compensation for affected users. It also reported the incident to law enforcement and said security and blockchain analytics partners were assisting efforts to trace and recover the funds.
