Kraken has restricted accounts while it investigates reports that assets tied to a suspected crypto theft of more than $133 million moved through its platform. The exchange confirmed the restrictions to Cointelegraph.
Kraken said the incident originated outside its platform and that its security systems and customer accounts remained secure. It is working with law enforcement to support recovery efforts. The exchange’s statement left the number of restricted accounts and the value of any funds held unspecified.
Blockchain researchers traced $108.8 million in USDC leaving accounts at Kraken, Crypto.com and OKX for 15 wallets. That figure covers activity across all three exchanges over 21 hours on November 1 and 2, according to Bitquery.
Crypto.com told the same outlet it had taken steps to block funds associated with the incident from moving through its platform and that users could still access their funds. OKX said it was looking into the matter.
The suspected victim remains unidentified. On November 3, blockchain investigator ZachXBT raised his estimate from more than $106 million to over $133 million after tracing additional exchange withdrawals, some of which followed his first public alert.
