The U.S. Secret Service and FBI are working with Binance after the exchange’s approximately $6.3 billion cryptocurrency theft, Reuters reported on October 30, citing a person familiar with the matter. The report places both agencies among the exchange’s international law-enforcement partners.

The source was unnamed. The U.S. embassy in London declined to comment, while the Secret Service had not responded to Reuters’ emailed request at the time of its report. Reuters did not describe a specific arrangement between the agency and Circle.

Separately, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said on October 29 that the USDC issuer had frozen more than $800 million associated with the incident in coordination with law enforcement. He pledged continued support for the investigation without identifying the agencies involved.

Binance’s subsequent funding update said roughly $3 billion remained frozen and recovery efforts continued with investigators, token issuers and blockchain intelligence firms. The exchange also reserved more than $6.34 billion of company funds to replace affected assets, excluding the frozen holdings.

The reported agency involvement adds to the issuer response, but freezing assets does not mean they have been returned. Neither the Reuters report nor Allaire’s statement provides a timetable for recovering Circle-restricted funds or confirms that customers have received those assets.
