Key Notes
- Utexo plans private USDT transfers and direct BTC/USDT swaps through RGB, bringing dollar-token settlement to Bitcoin.
- UniSat has been named as a wallet launch partner, while an exact release date has not been announced.
- RGB Lightning tools are already available in Tether’s WDK, with commercial USDT availability remaining a separate rollout milestone.
Utexo is preparing to bring Tether’s USDT to Bitcoin through RGB, with private dollar-token transfers and direct BTC/USDT swaps at the center of the rollout. The project aims to give wallets and payment providers access to stablecoin settlement anchored to Bitcoin.
Co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk told CoinDesk that Utexo has a commercial license to issue USDT on Bitcoin and bring it to exchanges, wallets and payment companies. The report describes issuance first, followed by a Lightning Network expansion, but does not establish an exact launch date.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino wrote “It’s coming home” in a September 24 post about USDT on Bitcoin, renewing attention on a project that Tether first announced last year.

RGB Keeps Asset Details Off Bitcoin’s Public Ledger
Tether announced plans to issue USDT on RGB in August 2025. It said the protocol would allow users to hold and transfer dollar tokens alongside Bitcoin in the same wallet, adding another route for stablecoins within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
RGB uses client-side validation: participants check the asset history relevant to their own holdings, while Bitcoin records cryptographic commitments. Ownership changes are tied to Bitcoin transaction outputs, helping prevent the same asset from being spent twice.
That design keeps detailed asset records between the parties involved instead of publishing them for every Bitcoin node to process. It reduces exposure of transfer information on the public ledger, although it does not make a payment invisible to its recipient or an intermediary handling it.
Wallet Integrations Bring USDT Closer to Users
Utexo’s product page lists settlement, BTC/USDT swaps and a bridge for routing USDT from other networks into Bitcoin. The company builds infrastructure for existing services, so its reach will depend on wallets, exchanges and payment providers implementing those tools.
The RGB Protocol Association identified UniSat as a launch partner on September 4, citing Utexo’s announcement. The planned wallet features include sending, receiving and swapping USDT on Bitcoin. That announcement did not specify a release date.
The effort joins a wider push to make stablecoins useful for payments, including the Open USD launch involving major financial and technology companies. Utexo’s approach focuses on connecting dollar-denominated payments with Bitcoin infrastructure.
Lightning Tools Are Available, but Rollout Is Separate
RGB Lightning support has already reached Tether’s Wallet Development Kit. The protocol association announced the module in August, following on-chain RGB support introduced in February.
Utexo co-founder Renat Skitsan’s technical walkthrough describes the module as an early beta. It gives developers tools for Lightning payments and RGB asset transfers; that software release does not by itself confirm USDT availability across consumer wallets.
Private Transfers Still Face Compliance Controls
Ihnatiuk also told CoinDesk that RGB assets cannot be frozen in the same way as tokens in an Ethereum smart contract. Instead, Utexo plans to distribute blacklists of flagged Bitcoin outputs to service providers and restrict redemption or bridging for affected assets.
That distinction matters alongside Tether’s existing enforcement cooperation. The proposed privacy features concern what appears publicly on-chain; access to exchanges, bridges and redemption services can still be subject to compliance checks.
The next practical milestones are a confirmed issuance date and working integrations that let users obtain and transfer USDT. Developer infrastructure and named partners show preparation for that rollout, while the precise availability of each service remains to be established.
