Key Notes
- Interactive Brokers has launched Ethereum staking for eligible IBKR LLC clients through its Client Portal, with zerohash providing the service.
- Earned rewards are credited as additional staked cryptocurrency and can compound, while clients can track stake and unstake requests in the dashboard.
- The launch confirms ETH support rather than staking for every tradable token, with availability depending on the affiliate and country of residence.
Interactive Brokers has launched cryptocurrency staking, starting with Ethereum for eligible clients of its U.S. brokerage entity. The service allows customers to earn rewards on ETH through the same platform they use to manage their broader investment portfolios.
The broker announced the rollout on October 13, naming zerohash as the staking provider. Clients access the service through the Staking Dashboard in IBKR’s Client Portal, where they can request staking or unstaking and track pending activity.
Rewards, when earned, are added to the staked cryptocurrency balance and can compound while the position remains staked. The launch covers eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients; access depends on the relevant affiliate and the customer’s country of residence.
Ethereum Comes First
IBKR’s product page identifies Ethereum as the supported asset at launch. Its broader cryptocurrency trading menu includes other tokens, but trading availability does not mean those assets are available for staking.
The distinction is particularly relevant for Solana. zerohash previously identified SOL staking as part of its infrastructure roadmap, yet the Interactive Brokers announcement confirms ETH rather than a simultaneous rollout across multiple networks.
The new dashboard brings the request process and status monitoring into the broker’s existing account interface. Customers do not have to operate validator software to use the service, with zerohash supplying the underlying staking operations.
From a June Partnership to a Live Brokerage Feature
The arrangement follows zerohash’s June 25 infrastructure launch, which named Interactive Brokers, Public and BitMart as initial partners for its Staking-as-a-Service product. At that point, IBKR CEO Milan Galik described staking as a capability the broker expected to offer in the near future.
zerohash said its infrastructure would handle blockchain connectivity, validator operations, rewards accounting and compliance, allowing financial platforms to embed the service within their own applications through an API integration.
That division of responsibilities is central to the model: the brokerage supplies the customer-facing experience, while a specialist provider handles the blockchain operations behind it. October’s announcement confirms the brokerage feature, rather than merely repeating the earlier infrastructure partnership.
Galik compared the new offering with IBKR’s Stock Yield Enhancement Program, which lets customers earn income on shares they hold. “We want clients to earn more from the assets they hold,” he said.
Staking Rewards and Trading Fees Are Separate
Ethereum staking supports the network’s proof-of-stake validation process. Ethereum’s staking documentation explains that validators commit ETH to help secure the blockchain and receive rewards for their work. Using a provider changes who operates the infrastructure, while the underlying activity remains participation in network validation.
Rewards do not establish a fixed dollar return. An increase in the quantity of ETH held is separate from changes in the token’s market price, and the availability and timing of withdrawals depend on the service and network process.
IBKR’s launch release lists crypto trading commissions of 0.12%–0.18% of trade value, subject to a $1.75 minimum per order. Those are transaction charges for buying or selling cryptocurrency, rather than a disclosed staking reward rate or staking service fee.
The announcement does not specify a net annual staking yield, a reward-service fee or a fixed unstaking deadline. Its reference to compounding describes how earned rewards are credited, rather than guaranteeing a particular return.
A Broader Crypto Offering Takes Shape
Staking extends a series of additions to the broker’s digital-asset services. In July, Interactive Brokers expanded its token selection through zerohash and Paxos and introduced withdrawals of brokerage dollars through automatic conversion into USDC, RLUSD or PYUSD.
That expansion combined support for more assets with transfers between the brokerage-linked crypto service and external wallets. It gave customers additional ways to move capital, while staking now addresses what they can do with eligible ETH they continue to hold.
The company also introduced crypto trading for eligible individual investors in the European Economic Area in March through Interactive Brokers Ireland. That regional trading launch does not, by itself, establish eligibility for the new IBKR LLC staking service.
CoinScreamer’s earlier IBKR coverage examined its expansion into prediction markets, another addition to the multi-asset platform. Our Schwab coverage followed the wider move by traditional brokers to integrate direct cryptocurrency access.
For Interactive Brokers, the latest addition takes its crypto offering beyond execution and transfers into network rewards. The confirmed starting point remains Ethereum through zerohash, with availability limited to eligible clients rather than the broker’s entire global customer base.
