MetaMask is exiting affected staking validators after a security incident hit part of its infrastructure. In a September 30 user update, the company said it had identified no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets while its response remained ongoing.

The validator exits are a precautionary measure being coordinated with clients and partners. MetaMask reiterated the action on X, linking to its notice and saying it would provide further updates as appropriate.

MetaMask stressed that its staking operations are non-custodial and that it does not manage withdrawal keys for clients’ staked assets. In staking, validators operate the infrastructure that helps process transactions and secure a proof-of-stake network.

The company is working internally and with external partners and security advisers to address the incident. It said monitoring would continue, but the notice did not give a timetable for completing remediation or restoring the affected operations.

MetaMask did not disclose the incident’s cause, the number of affected validators or the value of stake involved. The statement also did not specify whether any funds had been lost. Its assessment of wallet safety remains qualified by the ongoing investigation.
