KB Kookmin Bank, South Korea’s largest commercial lender, plans to launch a blockchain-based cross-border corporate payment service next month in partnership with Kinexys by JPMorgan. According to local reports from Yonhap News Agency, the initiative marks the first time a South Korean financial institution will utilize JPMorgan’s institutional blockchain platform to settle corporate import and export transactions.

The new commercial settlement service will be offered through KB Kookmin’s domestic branch network in South Korea as well as its Singapore branch. The initial rollout will prioritize US dollar transfers across ten key global corridors: South Korea, the United States, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and South Africa. By integrating Kinexys settlement technology with existing SWIFT messaging infrastructure, the bank aims to achieve near-real-time cross-border settlements and foreign exchange execution for international trade clients.

Kinexys serves as JPMorgan’s dedicated institutional blockchain business unit, providing programmable payment rails, tokenization capabilities, and round-the-clock liquidity management. The partnership aligns with KB Kookmin’s broader digital asset roadmap, which includes participating in South Korea’s tokenized deposit pilots and building hybrid stablecoin payment systems. As global commercial banks increasingly migrate institutional trade settlement onto distributed ledgers, KB Kookmin’s rollout represents a major step forward for institutional blockchain adoption across Asian financial markets.
