Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings has officially restructured its wholly owned subsidiary, SBI Security Solutions Co. Ltd., rebranding the entity as SBI Digital Practice Co. Ltd., effective June 22, 2026. Led by Representative Director Ryo Shimotsu, the Roppongi-based unit will serve as SBI’s dedicated business for planning, developing, and operating on-chain financial infrastructure and institutional applications on the Canton Network.

The move formally transitions the unit into an execution arm for Canton-based digital finance. Having operated as a “Super Validator” on the network since its inception, SBI will use the revamped subsidiary to help financial institutions in Japan and international markets build compliant transaction systems, cross-border settlement tools, and privacy-focused institutional infrastructure.

Broadening Multichain Reach Without Abandoning Ripple

While the restructuring establishes a heavy focus on Canton, it does not signify an exit from SBI’s long-standing partnership with Ripple. Through its SBI Ripple Asia joint venture established in 2016, SBI continues to build payment systems and token issuance platforms on the XRP Ledger. Instead, the Canton deployment highlights SBI’s adoption of a multichain model that targets specific blockchain protocols for distinct financial use cases.

This strategy builds on several recent digital asset expansions across the SBI Group. In July 2026, SBI Global Asset Management partnered with DigiFT to launch the Solana-based JX token, offering institutional investors on-chain exposure to a Japanese equity strategy. SBI also partnered with Ondo Finance to tokenize Japanese equities with JPYSC stablecoin settlement, and acquired a majority stake in Singaporean crypto exchange Coinhako to secure a regulated regional distribution network.

Connecting Japanese Finance to US Treasury Tokenization

Canton Network currently connects over 600 participating financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Franklin Templeton, Broadridge, and Euroclear, representing more than $6 trillion in asset value on-chain. The network’s growing footprint in real-world asset tokenization provides SBI with a direct gateway to global institutional markets.

A major element of Canton’s appeal is its integration with top US clearing infrastructure. Following a joint initiative between the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and Digital Asset to tokenize US Treasuries held at the DTC, Canton successfully settled a real-world US Treasury transaction paired with USDCx in July 2026. By establishing SBI Digital Practice, SBI positions itself at the intersection of Japanese institutional finance and international capital markets.
