Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi has defended Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan following Bloomberg’s report on company-funded expenses. In an October 20 post, he challenged a viral characterization of the story and described Dragonfly as one of Polymarket’s largest early investors.
Bloomberg reported that Founders Fund learned during its 2025 investment review that Coplan had used company money for private-jet flights, apartment rent and personal expenses. Citing people familiar with the negotiations, it said the fund required repayment and completion of financial-control improvements before investing. Coplan reimbursed the company, the report said.
Qureshi said Coplan initially ran the startup without taking a salary and disclosed every dollar spent. He described the annualized expenses, including flights, as roughly equivalent to a software engineer’s salary, and said none of the flights involved personal travel.
This is total nonsense.
We're one of the largest early investors in Polymarket, and this story that Shayne was "caught red-handed" using company money is just a flat out garbage hit piece.
Shayne wasn't taking a salary. He was 21 when he started Polymarket, he was living… https://t.co/rYlX8zEW5e pic.twitter.com/09eNQZFilb

He also said Coplan initiated the accounting and repayment process himself, repaid the company in full and subsequently began drawing a normal salary. “It was an accounting problem, not an integrity problem,” Qureshi wrote, expressing continued confidence in Coplan.
Qureshi’s defense comes from an investor with a financial interest in Polymarket. CoinScreamer has not independently verified the competing accounts.
