Aave said some markets may be temporarily frozen as a precaution following the ongoing Binance security incident. In an October 29 Discord notice reproduced by Tree News, the protocol described the move as a risk-management step to protect users and the system.

The notice said new supplies and borrowing of affected assets are paused while a market is frozen. It did not list the affected networks or tokens, specify a reopening time or name Avalanche. Aave said further information would come through its official channels.

Aave’s market interface explains that restrictions on frozen assets block further supply and borrowing, while withdrawals and debt repayments remain allowed. That distinction matters for existing positions: a freeze on new activity does not automatically mean depositors have lost access to their balances.

The precaution follows stablecoin issuers’ responses to the Binance incident. Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino confirmed a USDT freeze exceeding $1.567 billion, while Circle chief executive Jeremy Allaire confirmed more than $800 million in frozen USDC in coordination with law enforcement.

Aave framed its action as a precaution against possible wider effects across the ecosystem. Its notice did not report an exploit of Aave or confirm that a Binance-linked attacker had borrowed from the protocol. The exact scope of the restrictions remains unspecified in that announcement.
