Polygon is set to activate its Giugliano hardfork on April 8, marking another step in its effort to improve network performance and scalability. The upgrade will go live on the mainnet at block number 85,268,500, with deployment expected around 2:00 p.m. UTC, according to the Polygon Foundation.
The Giugliano upgrade is designed to enhance transaction finality by allowing block producers to announce blocks earlier in the validation process. This adjustment is expected to reduce the time it takes for transactions to be confirmed, improving overall user experience across applications built on the network. Faster finality has become a key focus for blockchain platforms competing to support high-throughput use cases such as payments and real-world asset tokenization.
In addition to faster confirmations, the upgrade introduces new fee-related features. Fee parameters will now be included directly in block headers, enabling better transparency and efficiency in how transaction costs are handled. The update also adds new remote procedure call (RPC) support for fee data, making it easier for developers and infrastructure providers to access real-time information about network fees.
The Giugliano hardfork has already been tested on the Amoy testnet, where it demonstrated a reduction in finality times of approximately two seconds. While the improvement may appear modest, it represents a meaningful gain in high-frequency environments where speed and reliability are critical. Node operators are required to upgrade their software before the activation block to ensure compatibility with the new protocol changes.
