A seed phrase is a sequence of random words generated by a cryptocurrency wallet that stores the cryptographic data necessary to access and recover digital assets. It acts as the master password or root key for all the private keys associated with a specific wallet address. When a user creates a new non-custodial wallet, the software generates this standardized list, typically consisting of 12 to 24 words from a specific dictionary. If a user loses access to their physical device or deletes their wallet software, they can input the seed phrase into a compatible wallet to fully restore their funds. Because anyone with access to the seed phrase has complete control over the associated assets, it must be stored with extreme care, ideally strictly offline.
