Home Glossary On-Chain

On-Chain

On-chain refers to cryptocurrency transactions and data that are officially recorded and verified directly on a public blockchain network. When an action occurs on-chain, it is validated by the network’s consensus mechanism and permanently etched into the distributed ledger, making it immutable and transparent. This contrasts with off-chain transactions, which are processed outside the main blockchain to increase speed or reduce costs before eventually being settled. Because on-chain data is publicly accessible, anyone can use blockchain explorers to audit transaction histories, track wallet balances, and analyze network activity. This transparency is fundamental to the trustless nature of decentralized systems, eliminating the need for central intermediaries to verify state changes.
