The Ethereum Foundation has published a new mandate outlining its mission and clarifying its role within the broader Ethereum ecosystem. The document describes the organization as one of several stewards responsible for preserving the network’s long-term principles rather than acting as a central authority.

According to the foundation, Ethereum’s development should continue to prioritize what it calls the “CROPS” principles – censorship resistance, open source, privacy and security. The framework reflects the network’s long-standing objective of enabling decentralized systems where users maintain control over assets, identities and digital activity without relying on centralized intermediaries.

As the Ethereum ecosystem expands across decentralized finance, infrastructure and enterprise applications, the foundation said the mandate aims to make its guiding principles more explicit. Leadership added that while these values have historically shaped Ethereum’s development, formally documenting them provides greater clarity for developers, institutions and community participants involved in the network’s future.
