Coinbase has partnered with Apex Group to launch a tokenized share class of its Bitcoin Yield Fund on the Base network, marking another step in the institutional adoption of tokenized assets.
The fund, managed by Coinbase Asset Management, offers exposure to Bitcoin alongside yield generation. According to President Anthony Bassili, the tokenized structure embeds identity and eligibility checks directly at the token level, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Built using the ERC-3643 permissioned token standard, the product restricts access to institutional and accredited investors outside the United States. Apex serves as the onchain transfer agent, overseeing ownership records and compliance rules.
The move reflects a broader trend of financial institutions, including BlackRock and Franklin Templeton, bringing traditional financial products onchain to enable faster settlement, lower costs, and continuous trading.
Coinbase plans to expand access to US investors in the future.
