Buterin cautioned that fast AI-generated implementations are likely to contain critical bugs, incomplete features, and inconsistencies despite appearing functional. He stressed that production-grade protocol software still requires formal specifications, multiple client implementations, and extensive testing before deployment on mainnet systems.
He argued the most effective use of AI is to split productivity gains between faster development and stronger security practices, including formal verification and larger test suites.
